Track Report – Extreme R/C Raceway and Hobby Shop: Spring Hill, TN
Photos by Dirk Anderson from Old School RC
Extreme RC Raceway’s newly opened track located in Spring Hill, Tennessee is a carpet off-road track located inside the Olympus Gym and covers a full size basketball court. Air-conditioned in the summertime, heated in the winter, and a roof over their heads ensures racing excitement regardless of what the weather may be.
The track is designed each race date for 1/10th scale vehicles and races twice a month cover 2WD and 4WD buggy, 2WD stadium truck, 2WD and 4WD Short Course, Novice, and Vintage classes. All vintage cars run together regardless of their style and it gives everyone something exciting to watch as these old cars fly high above the carpet track.
About a mile down the road from the track, owner Matthew Stevens also runs Extreme Hobby Shop. Growing up in the late 80’s- early 90’s, his dad took him to the racetrack on the weekends so it was a given to add a vintage class to the roster. It is not uncommon to see many younger drivers on the stand piloting buggies that are older than they are! It also makes a good, affordable, secondary class to race in and get more track time.
Track rules for the vintage class closely follow the ones set for the Vintage Offroad Nationals; brushless motors are limited to 17.5 turn and the chassis must be of 1996 or earlier manufacture but electronics and tire selection are open to what is currently available. 2WD buggy is the predominant vehicle in the vintage class, understandably so due to the large numbers of them that were raced back then. You will see RC10’s, JRX2’s, Ultimas, Cougars, and Tamiya’s take back the track and put down some impressive lap times!
If you’re ever in the area and feel like racing, get your old dusty buggy out of the attic and come down to enjoy some vintage R/C fellowship! Check out Extreme Hobby Shop and Extreme RC Raceway for race dates and times!
Remaining 2015 Racing Schedule:
November 8 & 22
